Work In Progress (WIP) Wednesday

WIP Wednesday is here!  Decided to do a photo recap of all things pending!

1.  The Circle Quilt - I'm not sure where this is heading yet but I know it should be big and fluffy with ties when all is said and done.  I have other background colors I will be using and lots more of those circles cut and ready to go.

2.  The 36 patch from a QAL with Amanda Jean at crazymomquilts.  I was going to go bigger, but I've lost the momentum so this will be a quilt top soon - time to sew rows.  I love the bright colors and as some of these fabrics were scraps, they hold special memories.  The baseball fabricin the primarily blue block was a shower curtain that my Mom made my oldest son, back when he was in kindergarten.  He's 18 now!  Yay for me for keeping the fabric that long.  Those yellow buses in the black and yellow block were a jumper that my same son wore as a baby.  Mom recently sent me that fabric.

3.  My String Quilt - how I love her!  Those colors - so pink!  And look at this sheet I found at Goodwill - think I'll use it for the back.  This quilt is at the stage of "time to press and sew the rows together".

4. Half Square - Diamonds quilt.  See the first row sewn together with the tips of the diamonds?  That's as far as I got when company came this summer and I had to clean off the dining room table.

5. Bust Yo Scraps QAL.  It is hosted by http://www.justabitfrayed.wordpress.com/.  I'm excited for a fresh start with a new quilt!  I've pulled these scraps from the basket and added in a couple of charm packs my MIL gave me.  You can find the details here. It will look like this:

So now to choose the solid color:

white?

yellow?

purple?

pink?

I could really use some help choosing!  What do you think?

Back to my list of WIPS...
6. A EPP Block Party with  http://www.summerfete.blogspot.com/.  Looks like a great take along project and I did love making hexagons last year.  She made the most beautiful table top/quilt for my new blog friend, Mary.  I can't resist making one, too!

7. The Chevron quilt - ready for a backing

I'm considering the curves class with Rachel at Stitched in Color.  Details here.
I'd also like to get involved in a charity bee but not sure where/which one.

That is all for now!

Linking up to Freshly Pieced WIP Wednesday.

Favorite 2011 Blogs

I hope everyone had a great Christmas!  We enjoyed a Christmas eve church service and a relaxing Christmas morning.  Then it was off to the cinema as a family to see Tom Cruise in the new Mission Impossible movie.  What?  There were other actors in the movie you say?  I've been a Tom fan since the 80s!  My husband pointed out that Tom is getting wrinkles in his face.  ;)   Verdict was - It was a great family movie!

Well with all of my sewing and wrapping for Christmas, the sewing area has recently gotten out of control.

So before I get back into my projects I forced myself to get organized.
I had some new stuff to organize, after all!  Thanks Santa!

I've had this fabric in mind for about a month now and when I saw it go on sale on fabric.com, I filled a cart! It's called Going Coastal.  Can't wait to use it.  It'll have to be a keeper as the colors and theme are perfect for our little harbor town house.  I also bought a yard of my first Anna Maria Horner fabric.  Yippee!

While I was organizing my fabrics by color, I peeked under the table and sure enough, my ever faithful sewing room buddy was getting comfy in his bed.

Here's a shot of all the fabric stacked nicely in it's new home on the shelves!  I have read on blogs about the different approaches to organizing fabrics - by color, by designer, dots together, stripes together and so on.  I went with by color and kept that new collection together as the one exception.  I also pulled out the geometrical looking bolder prints and kept them together.  Solids stayed together for the most part. The bottom shelf is heavier fabrics.  I have an idea in mind to cut a mix of the heavier fabrics in strips and braid them into a rug.

Speaking of "I have an idea" - this is hanging on the wall waiting for me to come back to it and turn it into a big quilt!  I can just see it as a big puffy one that I will probably tie off rather than quilt by machine so it can be really fluffy.

Duke thinks that sounds like a really comfy place to lie down! He has already started practicing for it!

So I'm all organized now and ready to roll!  Should I work on one of my 4 quilts in progress, or start something new?  Or will I continue to spend my time playing 10 games at once of Words with Friends, my new addiction?
  Stay tuned.......

And now here is a shout out to my favorite blogs of 2011:
