Fresh Sewing Day Randomness!

Hard to believe it's November!

October is always a busy month and this year it was more so than ever. I had a fabulous birthday trip to Salem to see my college freshman and delivered the Doctor Who Tardis pillow for his girlfriend. My youngest had a Doctor Who themed birthday party (Tardis cake and party bags) and dressed up as Doctor Who for Halloween. I made my first baby quilt and squeezed in a Halloween themed pillowcase. Here's a recap of sewing makes and also Doctor Who themed pics from the month!

I'm linking up to Lilly's Fresh Sewing Day, my first time! Also linking up with my girl, Cindy! Her button is in my sidebar.

Let the November sewing begin!

Doctor Who Birthday Party

I survived a sleepover! And so did the boys!

Jack's Doctor Who themed 11th birthday slumber party (for 6 boys) with a trip to a Haunted House was last night!

After having made a tardis pillowcase recently I felt more than prepared to make a tardis cake and party bags! The cake was a brownie - per jack's request. Jack helped me make the icing and then did the honors of drawing the black line down the middle himself.

Fellow blogger friend- Hadley - mentioned fish fingers and custard. Ok let's do that too! While my husband took a carload of kids to the haunted house, in the rain, I whipped up some custard!

Other highlights included Sprite pong and Gangnum Style dancing. We started Doctor Who episodes at 11pm with a midnight fish fingers and custard treat. I crashed at 1am but the party kept going. The house didn't burn down AND there were no trips to the ER. A success!

Did I mention I had a head ache today? Good thing there was wine at the baby shower! My girlfriend loved the Cougar backed patchwork quilt.

I'm linking up to Sew Modern Monday since I managed to mention a quilt in this post! :-D

Really Random Thursday

My boy turned 11 yesterday! Jack is the baby in the family. He came along 8 years after Mitch. He is such a joy!

Yep I found another use for my AMH felt garland! (It's a tutorial on her blog.) So the front window is all decorated for Jack!

It's even festive on the inside.

The birthday boy took in donuts for his class treat. I was even "on the ball" and ordered them the day before so they were iced and decorated in birthday sprinkles. Gosh this was such an easy birthday treat. No killing myself the night before in the kitchen. :)

These boys are so much fun! I came in for lunch and brought one of Jack's best friends, who is home schooled. Jack was completely surprised!

I even managed a shot of the "surprised face".

Just in case I forgot, jack left me this message on my IPad.

Crazy socks are his thing right now. And Nike elites. Why couldn't I have come up with $15 socks that every boy wants in multiple colors?

Fall is here in the PNW. Gray clouds, a little rain and cooler temps. Bring it on!

It's great napping and sewing weather!

Gathering pumpkin decorating ideas! Which reminds me, Jack's Doctor Who birthday with a trip to the local Haunted House is this weekend! We will have 6 boys sleeping over. Save me - what have I done?!

King Sized Tardis

My oldest son, Mitch, and his new college friend, Cara, are Doctor Who fans. They are fanatics, really. Mitch was brainstorming birthday gift ideas for Cara with me. I was showing Mitch (via picture text messages) a Tardis pillow I saw on line and offered to make one for him to give to Cara. His response: "Can we make that happen, Mom?" So, of course I did! I took a King sized pillow to him that weekend when I visited his campus. Then I had a week to make the pillow case before he visited us for mid-semester break. I finished it while he was here. He folded the case up and off he went with it on the train yesterday!

The police box I saw on line was done with stitching in it. Here was my inspiration.

I decided to go with fabric for the black boxes. I cut the blue fabric to fit the king sized pillow that I bought. Then I just eyeballed all the dimensions for the boxes because I really don't like Math! Once I made one window I drew it 3 times on Wonder Under and ironed it on the white fabric. Then I traced about 4-5 more and cut free hand strips to make the black boxes.

Mitch came up with the idea to write her name in the window that typically has script writing in it.

I stitched around the edges of everything that was ironed on, including all of the letters and the bars in the windows. I spent one evening sketching out the letters, cutting them out, tracing them backwards onto the wander under, ironing on white fabric, cutting them out and ironing them on to the black fabric for the top that says Police Box.

Keep in mind this is stuffed with an older, flat, king sized pillow, for this photo. Hers is new and fluffy!

Oh and we've had our home and porch painted! Yay for a black porch!

Now when Duke sheds his black fur won't show on the porch. :-)

The back has an envelope enclosure about a quarter way from one end.

So yes, in my quest to be "Mother of the year," I believe I scored major points with this deed!

We LOVED having Mitch back at home for a 3 day weekend, even if he was out visiting friends - in my car! What fun to listen to my son tell us about his classes and his new friends. And in a blink of the eye, we are off to the train station.

I'm linking up at Sew Modern Monday and Fabric Tuesday! The buttons are in my sidebar. Lets go see what everyone is up to!
