Vashon Island

Over the winter break I visited Vashon Island and their glorious quilt shop, Island Quilter. So much great fabric in one store! I was in heaven. It reminded me of a library - Rows and rows of fabric.

Katie Pedersen of Sew Katie Did had a couple of quilts on display along with information about her classes. I sure would love to go back and take one!

This is what I came home with. There was a big sale going on and you could apply the store wide sale to the marked down fabric.

We took the ferry over from Gig Harbor. It's a quick ride, maybe 15 minutes tops.

It was my parents' first time to drive on the a ferry. I get a kick out of being with my parents when it is their first time to do something. They've traveled lots in their lives. Dad will be 70 next year.

They have a beautiful light house on the island.

Look at this big ship that was going by as the sun set. Mom said this was one of her favorite days in WA.

Oh, Jack! And of course Dad (the photographer) played along.

The indoor skatepark on the island is small, but very colorful. Best of all it's a dry spot to skate in the winter months here. Jack has been several times.

Mom and Dad

I can't believe it has taken me 5 years to get over there! Ill be heading back soon.

Good bye to my parents

It was the best Christmas we have had in Washington! My parents arrived December 23rd and stayed for a two week vacation. It was glorious! This trip was originally scheduled for last May, when Mitch graduated from high school. Mom had a "mini stroke" then and couldn't travel. She's doing great now!

We took lots of day trips and enjoyed many a day here in Gig Harbor be it baking with my Mom (she makes the best pie dough!) or painting at our local pottery place (Mom's first time to paint pottery). There were walks along the beach with Dad and strolls around our historic downtown. Duke quickly found a best friend in his Pop, who takes really long daily walks. By the end of their stay, Duke would follow my Dad around the house each morning until he put his coat on. They even brought their grand-dog peanut butter dog treats for Christmas!

When we traveled, I "happened to know" where the local quilt store was! This shot is of the fabric I got on Vashon Island at possibly the BEST quilt store I've ever seen.

I've been posting on Instagram but took a small break from blogging. I'm back! Oh, in sewing news....I have two design walls now! Dad made them for me and gave my sewing machine a full tune-up. Now when I sew it doesn't sound like someone is beating a drum. I've also joined a sewing bee. Ill post more about that soon.

We are enjoying days of light gray which doesn't make for the best photographs but oh the memories I have captured, as a picture is worth a thousand words!

We have a Winner!

Happy Saturday, friends! I'm sharing with you once again my Christmas garland, using the free tutorial on Anna Maria Horner's blog found here.. I just love the old fashioned look of this garland and it's fun to make!

Just gather up some felt scraps, embroidery thread, scissors and a needle! I cut the circles last night while hanging out with my 11 year old and his pal who slept over. Tonight I'll probably stitch these up while watching something on TV. That's IF I finish cleaning the basement! My parents are visiting in two weeks so I'm cleaning like a mad woman.

This is what it looks like finished. I worked on this during the summer at the skatepark. You can never have too much of this! It also works as a head scarf for your dog!

He really will go along with anything. He just loves attention!

Now drum roll please........ The winner of the Sew Mama Sew giveaway on my blog is......

Terry from A Quilting Blog!

Terry was #14. She also had a clever comment about Duke being good in the photo so Santa Paws would bring him something good this year. Terry I've sent you an email. Congrats!

Thanks to everyone who entered and I just loved your comments about Duke!!
