Home Sweet Home

Back to the real world and back to DUKE! - our TX vacation has come to an end.  I enjoyed the time with my parents and old friends!  My youngest, Jack (10), was with me the entire trip and my oldest, Mitch (18) flew in for four days.  Loved having my boys there to hang out with their grandparents.  Jack is almost as tall as Grandma now!  Our baby is growing up.  Mitch entertained us with his stories of a college visit with DaddyO to Salem, Oregon the day before he flew in.  He is officially a Willamette Bear Cat and very excited about it.

I thought Duke was going to knock me over when we pulled up from the airport!  He has been by my side since, including bedtime, and settling into his normal routine.  Don't worry, my husband was putting cheeseburgers (without the bun) over his dog food at night and taking him for car rides while we were gone so he was not "forgotten" by any means!

I took lots of pictures on my trip!  If you are my friend on instagram you have seen some of them already.  Do you instagram by the way?  If so you can find me @dukesayssewwhat.  I love it!

One of the highlights of the trip was definitely making two visits to The Quilt Asylum in McKinney.  It happened to be near one of the best skate parks in the Dallas area called Eisenbergs, so Jack and I both were in heaven!  Let me just say - wow what a quilt store!!  I've never seen anything like it!  So many of the fabrics that I see on line were there.  I picked up a few!  I'll be doing a post on The Quilt Asylum tomorrow and show you many of the beautiful quilts they had hanging on their walls.  I met the owner and told her I've been following her on Facebook for the last year.  She was glad to know someone is reading her posts. LOL!  I just can't stress enough what a great shop this is.  You really have to go if you are in the area.

When I first started quilting, one of the first patterns I used was the French Rose.  It was in a quilting magazine and I made one for me and one for my Mom.  I thought I'd show you Mom's.

It brings back sweet memories of getting the hang of using a sewing machine. Each piece of the french rose is sewn, raw edge, onto the one under it.  The leaves were then to be raw edge sewn onto any side of the flower, mixing it up a bit.

Since I'm not used to sunny days (Washintonian here), the light was a bit bright in these photos.

But I think you get the idea!

Jack at Eisenbergs in Plano, TX

Eisenbergs is closing soon - they sold their building.  We timed the trip just right!

Would you like to see some of my new Fat Quarters from The Quilt Asylum?
ok!

Now to catch up with what all of you have been up to!
